Start with the CloudTail files you downloaded
CloudTail is an HTML hosting website template. This guide walks through its package structure and the first customization tasks, using the archive reviewed on 25 October 2026. It helps you find the right files before adapting the frontend for your own services.
The package contains separate Documentation and Template folders. Work inside Template when editing the website; the documentation has its own files and is not the website source directory. Keep an untouched copy of the download so you can compare your changes later.
Find the source pages and assets
Inside Template, the main working files are:
| Location | Purpose |
|---|---|
package.json |
Dependencies and the CSS build/watch commands |
package-lock.json |
The package's locked dependency versions |
src/ |
The HTML pages you customize |
src/assets/css/input.css |
The Tailwind imports, plugins and shared source styles |
src/assets/css/output.css |
The compiled CSS used by the pages |
src/assets/js/ |
Frontend scripts used by the template |
src/assets/images/ |
Images referenced by the layouts |
src/assets/fonts/ |
Local font files referenced by the styles |
Keep the page-to-asset paths intact when previewing the design. Moving an HTML file without its expected assets can make an otherwise valid layout appear unstyled or leave missing images.
Choose a starting layout
The reviewed archive includes index-1.html, index-2.html and index-3.html, plus additional homepage files such as index-5.html through index-9.html. Open the alternatives and choose the one closest to your project before editing the other pages.
Examples of the supplied page families include:
- Company and contact pages:
about-us.htmlandcontact-us.html, with additional numbered variants. - Hosting services:
linux-hosting.html,wordpress-hosting.htmlandwoocommerce-hosting.html, with numbered alternatives. - Domain layouts:
domain.htmlanddomain-search.html. - Editorial layouts:
blog.htmlandblog-single.html. - Account-interface layouts:
dashboard-1.html,dashboard-2.html,dashboard-3.htmlandlogin-1.html.
These filenames identify frontend layouts. A WordPress-hosting service page is not an installable WordPress theme, and a dashboard layout does not supply customer authentication. Choose pages for their intended presentation, then list the backend work separately.
Use the package's CSS commands
The template declares Tailwind CSS and its CLI in package.json. Its build command reads src/assets/css/input.css, writes src/assets/css/output.css and enables minification. The watch command uses the same input and output while watching for changes.
For a clean development copy with a suitable Node.js/npm installation, the workflow defined by these files is:
cd Template
npm ci
npm run build
During styling work, use:
npm run watch
Run these commands in the template folder containing package.json, not in Documentation. npm ci reinstalls dependencies from the lockfile, so do this in your working copy rather than the untouched archive. This article verifies the declared commands and file paths; it does not report a build or deployment test for your computer.
The official Tailwind CLI guide explains the input/output compilation workflow. Follow the versions locked in your project rather than upgrading dependencies as part of your first content edit.
Make the first content changes
Start with one homepage and a short list of real services. Replace the business name, support details, service descriptions, prices and navigation destinations. Check those changes across the other pages you intend to publish, since an HTML template does not provide a shared content-management dashboard by itself.
When changing utility classes or shared styling, update the HTML and source styles, then rebuild the CSS. Avoid making your only customizations directly in output.css: it is generated again by the build command. The reviewed template has a CSS-based setup in input.css; it does not contain a tailwind.config.js file in the template root.
For colors and typography, inspect the classes in your chosen page and the shared rules in input.css. The reviewed source declares local Plus Jakarta Sans and Clash Display font faces. If you replace fonts or images, keep a record of their licenses and test the resulting layout instead of assuming the new files have identical proportions.
Connect forms and customer journeys
Before publishing, decide what each interactive control should do. A contact form needs your chosen delivery service. A domain lookup needs an actual lookup integration. Login and dashboard pages need authentication and application logic if you intend to use them as working account interfaces.
If your hosting business uses WHMCS, plan its client area and ordering flow separately. Read planning a hosting website alongside WHMCS for a responsibility map and link checklist. CloudTail's HTML files do not install a WHMCS system theme or order-form template.
If your team wants WordPress-based content editing instead, compare the workflows in WordPress theme or HTML hosting template? before starting a conversion project.
Review your customized pages
Preview the pages through a local web server, then check your chosen homepage, navigation and service links at desktop and phone widths. Look for missing assets, long titles, changed image proportions and forms whose destinations still need implementation.
Choose how your web server will serve the homepage; the package uses named homepage variants rather than a root index.html in Template. Keep existing page links working when setting your public entry point. Deploy the public frontend files and assets your implementation needs, and keep development dependencies outside the public document root. The final deployment steps depend on your hosting setup and any backend you add.
Use the CloudTail product page for the current preview and purchase information. Existing Freemius purchases are available through the customer portal. Review the license conditions for your project; this customization guide does not expand the license or include separate hosting, billing or integration services.
